You may have first seen Jaime Ray Newman in The Drew Carey Show episode “The Warsaw Closes.” She had a small part opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the hit Steven Spielberg film Catch Me If You Can. Soap fans may know her from her 68 episodes as Kristina Cassadine on General Hospital.
Versatile, endearing, and attractive, sometimes tough, sometimes sensitive, often devious and other times just plain fun, you just can’t help running across actress Jaime Ray Newman when getting caught up on TV series from the past several years. Since her role on General Hospital, Newman has turned up everywhere you look, and we’ve seen her in so many genre roles since 2005 that we think she is someone everyone should keep an eye out for, and an actress we can’t get enough of.
Newman played Amanda Walker in the episode “Phantom Traveler” in Supernatural in 2005. In the same year she played Lieutenant Laura Cadman in two episodes of Stargate: Atlantis.
In 2006 she played the role of Stacy Goodyear in “The Woman in the Car” on Bones, and a versatile and memorable role as the wife of an amnesiac murderer on Medium in the episode “A Changed Man.” She also played in four episodes of Jerry Bruckheimer’s short-lived Pentagon-based dramatic series E-Ring, as Natalie Hughes.
That same year Newman had one of her best roles as a bit of a ringer for Veronica Lake on an eight episode stint of Veronica Mars as Mindy O’Dell, the secretive, ill-fated wife of Ed Begley, Jr.’s Principal Cyrus O’Dell, who was accused of murdering her husband.
In 2007 Newman played the younger version of classic sci-fi actress Joanna Cassidy’s character Victoria Pratt in the Heroes episode “Truth & Consequences.” She also played Lacy Kyle on Criminal Minds.
Newman guest starred as Aimee Martin, horse trainer and high school sweetheart of Christian Kane’s Eliot in the Leverage episode “The Two-Horse Job” in 2008. She also played in four episodes of Lincoln Heights as Sabrina Gasper.
In 2009-2010 Newman has major roles in the series Mental as Zan Avidan, as Kat Gardener in Eastwick, and as Vanessa Hemmings in Drop Dead Diva.
One of her most well-known roles to date was as Tess Fontana in 12 episodes of the Syfy Channel series Eureka.
We loved her as the wild and passionate Blutbad lover of Monroe, Angelina Lasser, in the episodes “The Three Bad Wolves” and “Over My Dead Body” on NBC’s Grimm.
Last year she guest starred as Holly Franklin in the Castle episode “Til Death Do Us Part” opposite Nathan Fillion.
Along the way Newman has had numerous other roles in films and on other TV series including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Crossing Jordan, Nip/Tuck, Life Unexpected, CSI: NY, Royal Pains, and NCIS.
Newman will be starring in the 2013 big screen animated release Tarzan, as the voice of the character Alice. This Tarzan film is an updated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original Tarzan of the Apes.
